- Start early from Leh to Nubra so you get smoother roads and less dust along Khardung La pass. Roads worsen later in day.
- The drive from Nubra to Pangong via Shyok route is rough and bumpiest so prepare for a slow ride and occasional nausea.
- Pangong’s blue waters stunned me more beyond the usual stay areas so kindly ask to go further ahead if time allows.
- Hanle’s night sky is unforgettable and almost unreal for phone photos if allowed by staff and time limits.
- Staying at Hanle guesthouse with hot shower felt luxury but rooms fill up fast so book well before May or June ends.
- Multiple permit copies saved me headache at checkpoints so get originals plus five photocopies right after landing Leh.
- Mobile network disappears near Hanle so tell family you’ll be offline for 24 to 48 hours and carry offline maps for navigation.
- If planning monasteries, visit Shey, Thiksey then Hemis on return to Leh—they feel peaceful after harsh high altitude terrain.
