From Passprt Community
- Dress in layers and keep a waterproof jacket handy; Iceland’s weather flips from sunshine to sleet in minutes, even in summer.
- Wear sturdy shoes with a good grip for hiking lava fields, cliffs, and volcanic beaches; slippery rocks are common.
- Carry binoculars for puffin, whale, and seabird spotting, especially near cliffs and fjords.
- Keep a small waterproof bag for your camera and essentials; sudden rain or ocean spray can soak unprepared items.
- Don’t skip the optional Zodiac or kayak excursions; the most stunning fjords, waterfalls, and glaciers are only accessible this way.
- Sunglasses and sunscreen are essential; sunlight reflecting off glaciers, snow, and black sand beaches is intense.
- Plan your photos and hikes around Iceland’s long daylight hours; early mornings and late evenings offer the best light for landscapes.
- Don’t overpack for daily excursions - you’ll be on the move frequently, and cabin storage is limited.
- Seasickness can happen on open-water crossings - bring medication or remedies if you’re prone.
