- Best to spend two nights in Leh first to acclimatise properly and avoid altitude sickness before heading to Nubra or Pangong.
- The road from Nubra to Pangong via Shyok River is very rough and many travellers felt nauseous or tired on that stretch.
- Try to reach Pangong before evening; camps there often get full and late arrivals struggle to find decent lodgings.
- Sunrise at the lake is magical with shifting blues, but camp comforts are basic and electricity is limited.
- Choose quieter villages like Merak or Man for homestays if you prefer tranquillity, local warmth, and fewer tourists.
- Don’t linger long at Khardung La; resting too long there can worsen headache or dizziness.
- Pack layers and warm clothes as nights and higher places like Pangong get very cold even in summer.
- The silence and ever‑changing colours between Leh and Nubra are hypnotic so soak in the ride rather than rush through destinations.
