From Passprt Community

  • Go earlier in the day, ideally before lunch, because the place gets crowded later and the monkeys can get more aggressive when too many people are around.
  • Keep all small items -sunglasses, hats, even water bottles - inside your bag. The monkeys here are clever pickpockets and will grab whatever is dangling.
  • Don’t buy or carry food into the forest unless you want to be surrounded instantly by monkeys; they can smell it right away.
  • The temple inside is still used by locals for ceremonies, so bring a sarong or rent one there to show respect.
  • Walk slowly and don’t make sudden movements toward the monkeys; staring at them directly or pulling things from them can make them agitated.
  • If you’re combining this visit with Tanah Lot, time it so you end your day at Tanah Lot for the sunset - it makes for a perfect pairing.
